Background

Counterbalance - A non-profit educational organization working to promote counterbalanced perspectives on complex issues. Excellent website addresses complex issues such as the evolution/creation controversy and the relationship of science and religion. Many audio and video links.

AAAS Dialogue on Science and Religion - Promotes knowledge about developments in science and technology within the religious community, and provides opportunities for dialogue between the scientific and religious communities on ethical and religious implications of scientific developments.

Metanexus: The Online Forum on Religion and Science – an organization dedicated to advancing research, education and outreach on the constructive engagement of science and religion. Their goal is to create an enduring intellectual and social movement by collaborating with persons and communities from diverse religious traditions and scientific disciplines.

The European Society for the Study of Science and Theology (ESSSAT) - a scholarly, non-confessional organization, based in Europe, which aims to promote the study of relationships between the natural sciences and theological view.

The Center for the Study of Science and Religion - interdisciplinary, inter-school, collaborative forum for the examination of issues lying at the boundary of the scientific and religious ways of comprehending the world and our place in it.

Nature News: Religion and Science – a range of news, columns and features about the frequently fraught relationship between religion and science.

History of the Debate

The Scopes “Monkey Trial” - This thorough Scopes trial site, built by Prof. Douglas O. Linder of the University of Missouri - Kansas City Law School, provides a wealth of primary documents -- trial transcripts, photographs, newspaper accounts, the Tennessee statute, relevant passages from Genesis -- as well as excellent summary essays

Replicators: Evolutionary Powerhouses – aims to provide a coherent, well-integrated presentation of the “replicator theory” of evolution to students and interested laypeople.
